Frequently Asked Questions
Is there enough demand for my language pair?
Demand for languages changes constantly, and it is very hard to predict. Our own bookings show this clearly. In 2018, Polish was our most requested language and Somali was 14th. Today Somali is our most requested language by a wide margin, and Arabic has risen to second place.
Higher demand does not always mean more work for each interpreter, either. Polish remains one of our busiest languages, but we also have a large number of Polish interpreters on our books. The languages where we struggle most to find interpreters are often ones with fewer bookings but very few qualified linguists, such as Tigrinya, Tetum or Fante.
So when you are deciding whether to take the course, think about your motivation. If demand is your main reason, you may be disappointed, because it can shift within a year or two. If you want a rewarding career where you use your bilingual skills, build your own client base and keep developing professionally, you will enjoy the journey whatever the market does.
I speak more than one language. Can I qualify in two languages?
Yes. You do not need to take the course twice, which saves you the full course fee.
Complete the course and pass the assessment in your first language. You can then be assessed in your second language.
